UK minister in meeting with Ukraine on fears of Russian takeover

The Asia News.Net
Wednesday 27th August, 2008

UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband is meeting leaders in Ukraine to talk about what he has called "Russian aggression."

He arrived in Kiev a day after Russia formally recognised the independence of Georgia's two breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Western leaders have condemned Russia's encroachment into the territories and the Ukraine is concerned it could be the next takeover target.

Ukraine's president says his country is a hostage in a war waged by Russia against states in the old Soviet bloc.

President Victor Yushchenko said the brief war between Georgia and Russia had exposed serious weaknesses in the powers of the UN and other international bodies.

Mr Miliband is holding talks with President Yushchenko and the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Volodymyr Ohryzko, who, like Georgian leaders, want to join NATO.

It looks to me, that at present time world thera is difusion among world powers. If previously we have had only two powers-Sowient Union and USA, now we have States and Units of states that wants to be recoginized to the power.

Additionally, old partition of World was destroyed and came up a new political fight for the new partition and influence to those new independent countries and regions.

This is convenient time to get a a share in that partition for every state, that wants to be recognized as a one of the World’s power State.

It looks to me that the international political situacion in very dengerious and demands a lot of ninternational diplomasy and wisdom and peasfull consideration.

World powers have to follow internnational respect principles, not to dig out from the history some artificial couses to begin to begin war fires in small countries and regions.

Our Planet is so small and frogile, we have to respect that hospitality that gives to us the right to live.

Wisdom, deplomacy, respect and peas should lead our politicions today...

Thank you for your attention!

O U R A M E R I C A
Havana. August 26, 2008

The Honduran leader sent affectionate greetings to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to President Raúl Castro, and to the people of Cuba, who have always extended their solidarity, he said.

Speaking at the significant event, Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage noted that the

Honduras joins the ALBA

“We don’t have to ask imperialism for permission”

President José Manuel Zaya of Honduras, during the ceremony

By Alberto Núñez Betancourt—special correspondent—

TEGUCIGALPA.—“Honduras has inherited sufficient independence and sovereignty from our national heroes, as well as the daily efforts of many decades, to be able to say to the whole world that we are not asking for permission from imperialism to join the ALBA (Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas), out of patriotic and pro-Latin American sentiments. We are doing so armed with ideas of liberty.”

Honduran President José Manuel Zaya affirmed this to a large representation of his people who began to arrive from the country’s 18 departments in the early hours of the morning and filled the Presidential House esplanade, now known as Plaza de la Libertad (Liberty Plaza), thanks to the dignified step taken this August 25.

ALBA was initially the inspiration of Chávez and then a project of Fidel and the Venezuelan president and is now the hope of the Latin American peoples. Today, one can talk of both ideas and accomplishments.

The words of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez came as the finest argument, demonstrating that the ALBA is the road to independence, equality and the honor of our nations.

“We are resolved to be free, whatever the cost,” he stated, emphasizing the need to work minute by minute for unity, as “life shows that every time that the enemy divides us a new colonial period is imposed.”

He mentioned the positive leap experienced by Cuba and Venezuela, countries that in barely four years have increased their trade exchange from $200 million to $6.5 million.

President Evo Morales of Bolivia noted that the ALBA is the just counterpart of the FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas), that instrument thought up by the empire to promote neocolonialism, which he also called the culture of death, for being the depredator of our resources and national identity.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega asked where the virtues of capitalism were, given that, over the centuries, that system has only provoked the impoverishment of our nations. “For that I greet every new incorporation into the ALBA, as I understand it as an emancipatory step.”

The ceremony for Honduras’ entry into the integration bloc was attended by representatives of Dominica, a full ALBA member; Ecuador, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic; and other countries in the region.

In the context of the ceremony, Lage met with Evo Morales and greeted other leaders present at the historical event.

The island delegation headed by Carlos Lage is currently meeting with dozens of Cuban cooperation program personnel at our embassy in this capital.

Energy is the Key

What will Russia do when the plug is pulled on oil and gas? Why are Shell and BP and other Western private companies gradually withdrawing from oil and gas and renewables with the “help” of those silly Russians? What do they know that we don’t? I get the distinct impression that the West is doing to Russia what Russia did to poor little Georgia, .... drawing them into position to swat them out of existence as a local power once and for all. Google the words Shell Sinclair Boffin and choose “I’m feeling lucky”, it might just make anyone with oil as their only asset sick to their stomachs. “Apparently” things have moved on at Shell with evanescent coupling such as the natural power Tesla used in his Pierce Arrow finally being understood at last. Oh those Russians!!!! (are for it)
