QUEZON CITY, Nov. 6 (PIA)--This city hosted this year's gathering of stakeholders and government agencies for the C40 Asian Adaptation Forum at Novotel in Araneta Center Cubao.

Local officials, international organizations, and stakeholders from the region will discuss measures in addressing climate change, adaptation, and resilience planning in global cities.

The three-day forum (Nov. 6-8) includes sessions on policy formulation and dialogue as well as a workshop for city officials on urban flooding, one of the main climate hazards affecting the region.

Among the topics that will be discussed are C40's Adaptation Diplomacy, a project supported by Cities Alliance that aims to discuss the urgency of Climate Change Adaptation in Global South cities focusing on Asia; the impacts of climate change in cities and communities, and strategies to communicate these impacts; and the need for financing mechanisms for adaptation in cities.

C40 Cities is an international organization that connects 96 cities that try to address climate action.

Member cities are committed to delivering on the most ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement such as increasing the ability of countries to deal with the impacts of climate change, and at making finance flows consistent with a low greenhouse-gas-emissions and climate-resilient pathway. .

The Quezon City local government has crafted and implemented an effective Environment Code addressing the city's concerns on environment protection and waste management.

Aside from the QC Environment Code, the city has also invested its resources in waste-to-energy, establishment of a materials recovery facility, and urging the residents to use bicycles as a mode of alternative transportation. (PIA-NCR)
