In the meeting, Mori hailed his "constructive" negotiations with Iran's deputy foreign minister for political affairs earlier, stressing that Tokyo attaches great significance to the relations and continuation of consultations with Tehran.

For his part, Zarif highlighted the amicable and constructive ties between the two Asian nations.

Pointing to Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo's landmark visit to Iran and his meeting with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei back in June, Zarif voiced Tehran's willingness to continue consultations with Tokyo on various bilateral and regional issues.

Abe visited Tehran in June to become the first Japanese leader to visit Iran in more than 4 decades.
