DHAKA, Bangladesh - On the occasion of Armed Forces Day 2021, President Muhammad Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to the martyred members of the Armed Forces on Sunday.

In the morning, the president, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and the prime minister laid wreaths at the Shikha Anirban (eternal flame) altar at Dhaka Garrison.

The ultimate sacrifice of the martyrs during the War of Liberation in 1971 was honored by a short solemn period of silence.

A well-dressed detachment from the army, navy and air force presented a guard of honor, with the bugle playing the last post.

Later, the president and the prime minister, who holds the Ministry of Defense portfolio also, signed the Shikha Anirban visitors' book.

Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the prime minister visited the Armed Forces Division. She was greeted by the PM's Security Affairs Adviser Major General (Rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique and the three services commanders.

Since the country's independence from Pakistan in 1971, this historic day has been commemorated as Armed Forces Day.
