KHULNA, Bangladesh - Some cleaners have spilled human feces on the premises of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) in an unusual protest over unpaid salary.
On Thursday afternoon, they sprayed excrement in front of the hospital's emergency department and in front of the director's office, filling the place with a horrible smell.
Patients and their families suffered as a result of the outsourced cleaners' one-of-a-kind protest.
After the demonstrators had left, the hospital's permanent cleaning staff cleaned up, and the hospital management alerted the police.
KMCH Director Dr. Rabiul Hasan told the media that the hospital administration would meet with the demonstrators on Saturday to discuss the problem.
It was known that the hospital outsourced 45 cleaners from the local Harijan or Dalit community about a year ago to cope with the increased pressure caused by the Covid-19 outbreak. However, the hospital administration failed to pay their salaries in the last five months.
