LAHORE, Pakistan - Following the announcement of a new COVID-19 variant known as Omicron, Federal Minister of Education Shafqat Mahmood stated on Monday that the government intended to keep education going.

The federal minister told the media in Lahore that he was unaware of the details of the new strain but that there should be no disruption in education.

Due to the new coronavirus strain, many countries, including Pakistan, have halted air travel to and from southern African countries.

The minister reaffirmed that exams would be held on schedule and with a complete syllabus, as determined by the education ministries.

According to Mahmood, who is also the head of the national COVID-19 body, the arrival of the new variant makes it increasingly imperative to vaccinate all eligible individuals aged 12 and up.
