ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Donald Armin Blome, the U.S. ambassador-designate to Pakistan, has finished all formalities for his trip to Islamabad, where he will arrive in the second half of February with a solid agenda.

According to well-placed diplomatic sources, a full-fledged U.S. ambassador to Pakistan will take up the mission after a five-year hiatus. It suggests that the U.S. intends to involve the region on a broader scale and with greater seriousness.

Although it is known that the United States' interest in Afghanistan has waned, it will not allow international terror groups to establish safe havens in the country again. Washington has its own ideas about how the region should be governed.

Pakistan is eager to collaborate with the U.S. as long as it does not interfere with its relations with other countries in the region.
