YANGON, Myanmar - According to military-controlled media, a Myanmar junta court has sentenced veteran pro-democracy campaigner Ko Jimmy and former National League for Democracy MP Phyo Zayar Thaw to death.
Ko Jimmy, actual name Kyaw Min Yu, was apprehended in late October during an operation in Yangon, while Phyo Zayar Thaw was arrested in November.
Both activists were charged with leading and plotting guerilla operations on the junta's army and their allies.
The junta has charged Phyo Zayar Thaw as the mastermind behind a series of attacks on coup government targets in Yangon in recent months.
The military accused Phyo Zayar Thaw, a well-known hip-hop singer, of backing terrorist groups and stockpiling firearms, ammo, grenades, and explosives in two Yangon residences.
The military court also accused him of holding Zoom meetings with the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), the National Unity Government (NUG), and its People's Defence Force (PDF), all of which the junta considers to be terrorist organizations.
