SAGAING, Myanmar - According to local sources, clashes erupted this week between a coalition of resistance forces and a 100-soldier junta column sent to guard the office of a Chinese extraction company near the Letpadaung copper mine in Sagaing Region's Salingyi Township.

The company is a subsidiary of Wanbao Mining, which operates the contentious Letpadaung mining site in collaboration with the military conglomerate Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd. (UMEHL).

On Sunday evening, an army column and local defense forces engaged in a four-hour battle, with resistance fighters claiming to have ambushed and surrounded the unit at 4 p.m.

"We blocked them from the front and attacked them from every angle." "As far as we know, we had no casualties on our side," Ko Khant, a guerrilla group spokesperson, said on Monday.

It was unclear whether anyone was killed, injured, or captured during the clashes.
